Is The Multi-Cultural Dream A Failure?

In an earlier thread there was much discussion regarding different cultures, can we now take it that when one criticises some groups it is not being racist, but simply questioning their culture?

In light of this is there any chance of creating an acceptable multi-cultural country, or is that dream a failure?

Gromit, that is NOT multiculturism, not as Noo labour foisted on us - which is what people hate.

I would suggest you are the one with your head in the sand because you are so blinkered about your beloved noo labour.

"we need to understand what "multicultural" really means. to be completely multicultural would mean embracing everything that comes with our visitors and, for example, permitting practices such as FGM, honour killings, sharia law, etc. "

Good luck with getting an answer to that. I never have :-)
Multiculturalism has been going on in Britain since the Romans first arrive, and, who knows, probably before. I am unsure what you mean by a "failure" though aog ?

I for one am more than willing to stick my head above the parapet here and say that, in general, that is has worked. Look at our eating habits....completely changed from when I was a boy in the 50's. What is our National Dish ? Its certainly not Tripe and Onions is it !
Mikey,

Fish & Chips?
criticising and questioning are two different things.

(16:43)...I like a nice Chicken Tikka Marsala myself ! Can't remember much of the being round in the 60's. In the 60's and 70's all most of actually had was those ruddy awful Bernie Inns, with a choice of about 5 things for main course. And Black Forest Gateau for pudding !
Fish and chips it is agchristie followed by roast beef, yorkshire pudding and all the veg.
mul·ti·cul·tur·al
(mŭl′tē-kŭl′chər-əl, -tī-)
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or including several cultures.
2. Of or relating to a social or educational theory that encourages interest in many cultures within a society rather than in only a mainstream culture.

It doesn't actually mean that all the different cultures have to homogenize, it means they should hopefully be able to live peaceably side by side.
