Is your local town or village pronounced completely differently to how it is spelt? There are plenty of them like that in the U.K.
The town Wymondham in Norfolk comes to mind, pronounced Why-mun-dumb.

And close to Houghton Regis - which we actually call Huffton, is Bidwell Hill (Biddle) and Tebworth (Tebuth)
I don't know what you call something that is smaller than a hamlet (3 farms and that is it) but a friend of mine lives there and has a small caravan park on his farm. The place-that-is-smaller-than-a hamlet is called Tranmire and the sign on the main road says Tranmire Only.
All the tourists seem to think that the name of the place is Tranmire Only!
never heard it pronounced like that everyone i know says win,dum
there are too many down here to list. visitors are just left to get them wrong.
Towcester - Toaster
Friockheim, in between Arbroath and Montrose, is pronounced Freakum.
Althorp is pronounced Althrup, I recall
Town near Blackburn called Darwen - or Darren to locals.

Let's not forget dear Owdhammer - he wouldn't have sounded right as Oldham-mer
We went to Cornwall for many years and often spent a day in Fowey. We always referred to it as Fowey (FOW to rhyme with 'cow', plus WEE) until we realised it should be pronounced FOY

Gloucester is pronounced Gloster, Leicester pronouned Lester and so-on.

Norfolk has quite a few :-

Postwick - possic

Happisburgh - Haisboro

Hunstanton - Hunston

Weybourne - Webbun

Costessey - Cossie

Hoveton - Hoofton

... but at least in Norwich (Narridge ?) "Magdalen Street" is pronounced the way it is spelt, not the poncy Oxford way.
