We were advised by a IT person that Malawarebytes was the best protection for a computer. We are with Norton at the moment but that costs about £40 approx. yearly renewal whereas Malawar cost £17. Also with our new IP believe we can get a deal with McFee cheap. Has anyone got any views on the best of the better one of the 3.

You can get malwarebytes free as you can internet security.

£40 for norton? i stopped paying when it reached nearly seventy pounds a year, have used malwarebytes and mse for free for over a year and no problems
Malwarebytes is in addition to, not instead of, a proper internet security product....free or paid-for.

I have been running the free version but presume by buying the Premium package it would be better than the free version also keep getting the window saying your free trial has expired.
I've had Norton for 6 years, then changed to Kaspersky (rubbish!) for a year and now have free AVG.
When you install Malwarebytes you have UNTICK the option at the end saying you want to try out a trial of the "PRO" version.

Many people don't notice this so instead of getting the free version they get a trial of the paid for version, which of course runs out.

I believe there is a way of converting the trial version back to the free version (try the malwarebytes icon on the task bar, maybe a right click)

As has been said, Malwarebytes should NOT be the only security you have on your PC.

Also note that the free version of Malwarebytes has to be run manually, if you don run it now and again it is doing you no good at all. Only the paid for version runs automatically.
Unless Malwarebyes have branched out into AV, take heed of what has been said. You don't replace your AV with Malwarebytes, you have both and use Malwarebytes to spot the nasties that aren't nasty enough to be labelled 'virus'.
janbee may think Kaspersky is "rubbish"....but she is in a minority. I use their Internet Security suite (free with my Barclays internet banking) and find it excellent. It has been voted top (third year running) by the testers of Computeractive magazine, and comes top...or near the top..in other independent tests.
Personally, I have settled for the Free edition of Malwarebytes and MSE for my Desktop and also my Laptop.

^^^^ You have had the neccessary links from ummmm for all the protection you need.

Hans.
^^^^Personally, I wouldn't be trusting something that independent tests had described thus..."dire results", "poor performance", "steer well clear" etc. For details you only have to search "MSE reviews".
@gingejbee..... Microsoft Security Essentials provides constant virus protection, also called on-access or resident protection, for free. This means that Microsoft Security Essentials can completely replace antivirus software from companies like McAfee and Norton that charge for their software and for yearly access to updates........Review 2014 :-

Hans.
We have MSE on all 6 of the computers in our house, we also have the paid for version of Malwarebytes on 3 of them, we never get more than the odd PUP when scanning weekly, so MSE must be doing something right.
@Hans: now, if you'd only picked a review by independent people who have actually TESTED the efficacy of MSE...you'd know what I'm on about.
Your "reviewer" is a freebies expert and is simply regurgitating press release info.
Here's a review from this year by security experts who've tested MSE....page 2 is particularly interesting

I use Comodo free and Malwarebytes free and they cover all my concerns, so fair without failure.

The Malwarebytes free runs on demand and I do a scan about every 3 weeks. The Comodo runs all the time and updates daily.

I also use the W7 firewall which is permanently on.

I've got Avast, which runs all the time, and Malwarebytes, which I do a scan with every week. Both are free, and I've had no problems with either of them.
