Anyone Know How To Clean An Iron?

I've tried everything including shop bought and remedies on the internet. Nothing has worked. If it helps it came from ironing a t shirt logo transfer. I have bought a new iron but is it now bin fodder or can it be cleaned and put in the cupboard for the next mishap?

I've used wire wool on mine with no problems.
