Can anyone explain 1 across for me - I know the answer is COCKPIT and I can see why but how does the " may be patio to a real landlubber " fit in - I can see no relationship between a cockpit and a patio in any circumstances !

cockpit = where to conduct a cock fight
cockpit = (flight)deck on aircraft - where to conduct flight
a deck = a patio, to a real landlubber
