Clearly no one else has a problem with this clue except me!
I have the answer of hedgehog to 43d - Insectivorous mammal with young known as urchins.
However, no amount of googling comes up with anything other than baby hedgehogs being called hoglets (at least in recent times).Any explanation welcome. Thank you

Hedgehog is correct
Urchin-snouted is defined in Chambers as with a snout like a hedgehog if that helps

Thank you for both replies - I wonder why I can't find any reference to baby hedgehogs being called urchins though. I find it a very good description though because that's exactly what they look like to me.
Urchin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urchin Urchin or urcheon is the Middle English term for "hedgehog"
