I got a new shed recently and had planned to varnish the internal floor with a clear varnish, but the guys fitted the shed on a wet day and I have mucky footprints all over the floor.

Any ideas as to how best can remove them?

Soap & water. Let it dry. If still mucky, sandpaper ?
What I'd try anyway.
Soap, warm water and a scrubbing brush should do it Duncer

I'll let Mrs D know.
Ah, you forgot to state Mrs. D in the question. I thought you were asking for yourself. Never mind, she will be pleased you found out for her.
Dancer I would use water based stain rather than varnish
I'd leave it alone - it's a shed isn't it not a living room?
