Hi

The air bag light is on in my car and my mechanic tells me it is to do with a detonator problem, i need to get my car through the mot and need the light out a friend mentioned that car electric people can fit a resistor which will put the light out rather than spending a fortune getting the main problem fixed is this true?

The MOT test checks that the air bag warning light is working so turning it off will fail the component
Yep, they check all warning lights now for the MOT.
....so, you will have an air-bag warning-light not working properly AND an air-bag not working properly? Wise move?
You don't say what make model of car you have, it could be something as simple as a wiring loom that is causing the air bag warning light to illuminate. But as others have already said, it is indeed an MOT failure. Please get it fixed pronto.
The air bag light has to illuminate and turn off in the normal start up sequence, so removing a bulb or other anything else that prevents the light coming on will fail.....A long shot, but.... some seat belt pretensioner's are linked to air bag, as anyone moved or stuffed something under a seat? Loose connection/plug? Have a look.
Had the same problem on my Audi A4 and it was just a dodgy earth connection
