Hi Folks, just thought I would ask for your advice/opinions/suggestions please on the following.

My OH came home from work and showed me this article in the newspaper he had been reading -

BRITISH holidaymakers in Turkey face being attacked on beaches by Islamic State terrorists.

We have chatted about whether to go to the Travel Agents and see if we can change our destination, thing is anything can happen from now until May next year so is it worth changing the destination, however, if we don't and it gets worse then we're stuffed..

Mum and I were talking about it at the weekend and she would be happier if we changed destinations, just don't know what to do for the best?

Are we being premature or change destinations while there are some still available within our budget? We have already paid off the honeymoon in full so all it would mean is paying admin fees to change, I think?

I've not heard that, what paper was it in? It depends how much a worrier you are, you wouldn't want anything to spoil your honeymoon. If it came from a reputable source I might consider changing,

It was in the Daily Star... not the most reputable newspaper, granted but as you say we just don't want to spend x amount of money for the honeymoon to be spoilt, just don't know what to do for the best.
it's worthwhile finding out what you CAN do regarding changing - if you can't change without losing all your money, that will probably make the decision for you

Yes, you're right, I think if we still feel the same by the weekend then we ought to take a trip to the Travel Agents and have a chat.
My sil came back from Turkey ( hols ) two weeks ago and she hasn't mentioned anything about this, and believe me she would.

We're going to Side in Turkey, not sure how far that is from the border though.
I think it should be OK

I booked Jordan ( last year ) and will go in a few weeks - o dear
Side is miles away from the trouble
Looks really nice actually
About 450 miles to Syria according to Bing
We have friends out there at the moment and there is no problem.

450 miles... that should be enough, shouldn't it ;)

Dont worry, Turkey is very protective of tourists. Every main street flies banners reminding Turks to respect tourists.
Turkey is technically a Muslim country, they tend not to be at all radical there though, they seem to pick and choose which bits of the Koran suit them. I know a few Turkish muslims who drink alcohol, smoke and gamble.
