Help! To cut a long story short ive been to Cuba for 2 wks, During holiday it transpired that his girlfiend was msging him saying she was self harming. end result was nightmare. I said I had 2 spk 2 her mum, he went mental.......he said I wud b breaking a promise and I don't even know ifshe is she is telling the truth....... help???

See if you can persuade him to arrange a chat with her Mum, you can be present too - that way he is helping his Girl and growing up a bit ( well a lot)

Apologies. She has a history of supposed self harming. sent a msg to son on hol saying she had cut tummy etc, was a pin prick. seems to be for attention but son feels he is the rescuer......

I'd keep out of it too, jealousy seems as a good reason for her behaviour. Anybody who tried to spoil my holiday in Cuba could get on with it quite frankly.

Sounds like attention seeking but to be sure why not have a word with the girlfriend? leave the mother out of it for the moment as if the girlfriend is self-harming you may become the 'safe adult' who she confides in. She may have a horrible home life and involving the mother before you know the full facts could be disastrous.

Attention seeking. True 'cutters' would not tell anyone they were doing it (my daughter is/was one), they go out of their way to hide it even from partners. She was probably worried that your son was going to go off with a gorgeous Cuban girl or something whilst on holiday and thought that by threatening to cut herself she could blackmail him emotionally into staying faithful.
