I have recently bought an wharfdale 26" widescreen lcd tv with built in freeview but when I use my dvd player (pioneer 220) to record freeview it only works when the tv is switched on? When I turn tv onto standby the dvd records blank screen? Can anyone help me please!

When you record, the signal has to come from somewhere! Your recorder has a built-in tuner for other channels, but not for Freeview. So it must use the tuner in the TV. It can't do this if the TV is not on.
