Why do birds peck at windows? How can you stop them?

You can stop them by hanging net curtains or streamers - anything really - in the window.

But if they're not harming themselves, don't worry about it.

Sometimes they will peck at windows in search of flies caught in webs and other bugs like that - in the same way that they tend to peck under window (or similar) ledges.


If you like seeing them you could try putting out some food for them to feed at instead. Peanuts and fatty products (from a petfood store) will give you a good mix of birds eg sparrows and blue tits.

No idea about the windows but last week a bird crapped on the bonnet of my car. Obviously I dumped her.
