trouble with AVI files

i have some avi files which i can watch on my wmp but when it comes to converting them to dvd i have trouble. i get a error box saying SPECIFIED FILE IS NOT A VIDEO FILE OR FORMAT IS NOT SUPPORTED. so i cant convert them. any ideas

which programme are you trying to use to convert them.

sorry ive made a mistake there. its joining the files, and i get that message. for joining files i use vitraldub which works fine on other avi files but not these
double check they are AVI files, if so make sure you have the latest version of Vitualdub (i think is 1.6) if not try virtualdubmod.
If you can get the files to open individualy try saving them as AVI but with a different type of compression then joining them.
