/// Taylor's trial was held at the Hague in case it sparked renewed unrest in West Africa. In order to help bring him to justice, the Blair government agreed that he would serve any term of imprisonment in the UK – with the taxpayer picking up the bill. ///

/// Since the end of 2013, he has been imprisoned in HMP Frankland at a cost of around £50,000 a year, ///

a week in Prison costs more than a week in Eton
but you really already knew that didnt you ?
So that's about £25,000 so far, and he's fighting to go back to Africa to serve his sentence.

We should allow him to go back.....

The question that needs to be asked is, "why is he here in the first place".
I don't get it, any prisoner is being deprived of a "family life" that is the nature of jail. Why is this guy any different?
> "why is he here in the first place". <

have you ever tasted the breakfast in a french jail
I have no objection to him being incarcerated here but all of the nations (UN nations) should share the cos of his incarceration, it would then be minimal to each state. I have every objection to him being returned to Africa, as he'd be there about 5 minutes before he suddenly wasn't, and we didn't go to all this trouble to convict him only to have him ' sprung' by some sympathisers back home. That is no deterrent for any wannabe warlord, so keep him here and let him rot, but let's try to get some of the others to help pay for it.
I think the most obvious solution would be to return him to his own country to serve his sentence
Not really sure what he seems to actually want - but then I have not read the article in detail
What kval said....

We helped bring a mass murderer to justice

You have to be pretty warped to try and turn that into a 'problem'

The other nations involved in this enforcement of international law should share the costs, though by the standards of international finances, the figures involved are paltry.
His wife and 15 children wouldn't have to travel to see him if we allowed them to settle here.
sandy

HMP Frankland is in County Durham

Property must be plentiful and cheap-as-chips up there
Well it's his 'ooman rights, empowered into UK law by noo labour. All part of hs tonyness and Cheries pension plan.
