What is so difficult to understand about why this was posted?

Does it really matter to the article that he's Muslim? Just doing his good deed for the day. If only there were more like him!
I don't see why the fact that he's Muslim is being highlighted here. He's been a Good Samaritan (as it were) and given a poor person his shoes, it doesn't matter what religion he is (or none).
Question Author
true boxy same as some of the negative muslim posts need not say that he was muslim
and no one has said the observer was

a sikh
giving to the poor is mandated by Islam, isn't it, boxy? No special mention of shoes, of course; but it does suggest this may have been religiously motivated in a way that might not be the case if he'd been a Christian.
a man doing a kindness,
A very unselfish and humane act, may his god go with him.

The thing that puzzles me though is how did they obtain his phone number?

/// When reached by phone, the kind-hearted man asked QMI Agency not to identify him, because his Muslim faith teaches that charitable acts should be anonymous. He is a 27-year-old resident of Surrey, British Columbia in Canada and was coming from the nearby B.C. Muslim Association mosque. ///
//same as some of the negative muslim posts need not say that he was muslim //

That depends upon what is being reported. If it's 9/11 or 7/7 then mentioning that the perpetrators were Muslim is highly relevant. In this instance, the man's religion is completely irrelevant. He's just a bloke doing a good deed.
Question Author
> That depends upon what is being reported.<

correct naomi so what i posted is also correct

> same as some of the negative muslim posts need not say that he was muslim
yes jno giving to the poor is mandated by Islam
Dr.Filth, why is his religion relevant?
.

The Quranic quotes on charity are here:
http://www.biharanjuman.org/charity.htm

and surah 2 ayah 271 says it can be anonymous because God sees eveything ( of coruse )

Sadaqa the word is related to sadiq=friend

I found your post inspiring Dr F

An act of charity - common so what makes it newsworthy ?

and the answer has to be context.
one can list the contexts ad infinitum - Canada, Public transport, he's a man, they were both men, daylight and so on

and the thing that does stand out for westerners -I doubt if this is carrying in Dubai - is that he is a muslim,
Question Author
pp it makes a change from the negative posts about muslims
Nice story.

I do think his religion is relevant as Muslims get such negative press.
Dr.Filth, I'm not twisting anything. I've asked you a simple question. Why is his religion relevant?
Question Author
naomi some people walk through life and see only black and white and some see all the beautiful colours
I remember reading that David Wilkerson (The Cross and The Switchblade author) did the same thing years ago.

It's a good thing to do, whoever does it

Dr.Filth, ok, it's a question you can't answer. hc has it right. //It's a good thing to do, whoever does it //
