Be interesting to see what the TV critics will make of it in tomorrow's papers.
I was so disappointed by it.
I loved the book and thought the programme was really leaden....and I couldn't make out what they were saying either.
Think Mary the leading character was supposed to have once been in Downton Abbey but I didn't recognise her as being from the series.
She was the one who had the baby to the Irish chap, then died. Sybil was it?
As mentioned 'Jem' has been in a few things apart from 'The Paradise'

Was looking forward to seeing this but like others it was turned off after 20 mins. Wife has lived in west country all her life and I have been here over 30 years and neither of us could understand it. What a let down.
20 minutes or so of it shot in Kirkby Lonsdale on the edge of the Lakes. Very apropos setting for being Cornish!
Turned off after twenty mins. Couldn't tell what they were saying. Poor.

I watched with subtitles on,,,,,,,,,,,i'll stick with it. the brother jem, what have I seen him in on tv ?
We watched it for 30 mins but switched over because we couldn't follow what was going on as the sound was so bad. What a waste of money and acting ability. Whoever told them to mumble in a strange Cornish accent should be sacked. It was very slow too, as was the book, but the photography was excellent.
C'mon, anne. Read the previous answers. Lol.

I gave it 15 minutes with sub titles and then gave up.

DTC, I Googgle Earthed Jamaica Inn and there is a blooming great dual carriageway running passed it now. I guess they're had to find more suitable "windswept" locations.

I know chrissa ,,,,,,,,,,,ooft :)
Lol.
The real Jamaica Inn was featured on a programme a couple of weeks ago (might have been Escape to the Country or one of those property programmes) the landlord was interviewed and it looked a nice place.
Bit of a Japanese tourist trap now and the coach loads swing through, the A30 being so close by......there's still some windswept moor left behind and they could always use the West Penwith area as well (St Just to St Ives).
Anne, the fella playing the brother Jem was Mr Dudley in The Paradise.

I watched again tonight, but was struggling to keep focused, zzzzzzzz
he was also Fisher Bloom in one of my favourite period dramas, Lark Rise to Candleford.
Here's a link to a synopsis of the plot for those of you who couldn't hear it and don't want to read the whole thing!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamaica_Inn_(novel)#Synopsis
