When I was about 7 or 8 - so 1980-1 or thereabouts there was a film/series on ITV starring Tommy Steele and Millicent Martin as reject toys in the basement of a department store who had to get to Santa on the top floor by Christmas Eve to save them from being destroyed - twee, I know! But when I ask if anyone remembers it they just look at me strangely...so does anyone out there recall this, or better still, have a copy (mine was on Betamax!)? I would be well-chuffed for any response.

You're not alone Suzanne - I remember it too. It appeared on ITV for two or three Christmas' running in the very early 80's. Tommy Steele played a toy soldier who had get to the top floor of the apartment store to enlist Santa's help in rescuing Millicent Martin's doll character. I'd be just as interested if anyone can track it down. Sad, eh ???!!!

Oh, it was in 1979, by the way. As far as i know it was never released. It was last shown on British tv in 1979 too.
I know I saw the film when I lived in Cardiff, and I know it was the year our video player was bought for christmas.  Whilst I can't remember the date when we got the video player, I know I moved to Cardiff in 1981.  Therefore its last play on TV couldn't have been 1979 as someone said, it was at least as recent as 1981!
Thank you so much for posting this question, I have spent years asking about this film only to receive strange looks from friends - you don't know how happy I am.
