Swan Killing A Swan

Last week I was watching a swan pecking a young swan again and again on its neck and holding it down with one of its feet, it was horrifying to watch, the swan kept it up for about half an hour, thought the baby was a goner then it would lift its head and the swan would start pecking again until it looked like no life was left in it. I went away then came back later, no sign of what had happened, was it a killing or had the swan just given birth and was helping it to breathe....??

Me to viv38, I think its abhorrent to abuse animals simply because they are lower down the evolutionary chain.

They wouldn't be allowed to do it with puppies, what makes it right to do it with insects?

They don't make a noise, or appear to feel pain, and they are not attractive to look at, but that should not condemn them to abuse or death in the name of entertaining a watching public.

If someone suggested bringing back bear baiting there would be hell-up - but honestly, is there any difference?
To be clear when I said I don't believe in intervening in nature I was referring to what goes on on the park pond amongst ducks, swans or whatever.....that is nature taking its course, as unsavoury to some as it maybe.

Spot on andy.
Thanks viv.
