i watched this story on the news last evening, if it's about halal meats
One man said that if they didn't have halal meats in his butchers, no one would come, so those who don't like this method of slaughter, have it foisted on them, one can find non halal, but that is now in supermarkets and i am not convinced about that either. They are going to have a problem convincing those who own butchers, especially in the capital, as most of the butchers i come across, only do halal. A woman on the news said it's her religion, her rights - not mine though.
in this case the animals should be slaughtered as humanely as possible,

Subway, the sandwich company, only do halal, or at least that is what a sign up said. We are a laughing stock, never mind just about halal

I have some sympathy with Zeuhl's position. As others have pointed out, this thread is about religion more than it is about animal rights - but that's not the criteria on which the law should be decided.

Personally, having read this thread, I'm uncertain whether the halal/kosher method of slaughter is more humane or not - and that's what should be the deciding factor.

That would mean we had stopped it in this Country and as you rightly say we have no control over what happens elsewhere, that would be down to whatever Country was exporting it.

If it is genuinely believed that kosher and halal meat is produced using cruel methods, perhaps its import should be banned as well?

Orthodox Jewish and Muslim people could give up meat or leave the country.

Alternatively, perhaps the animal welfare bodies and the affected UK religious leaders could work together to find a mutually satisfactory form of slaughter?
