I never need alcohol !
I know most people wouldn't drink and drive, but why make it easier for the few who will try their luck?
"I know most people wouldn't drink and drive, but why make it easier for the few who will try their luck?"

Well I do not see it that way. If it is dangerous to have pubs on motorways because motorists will be filled with an uncontrollable desire to get off their face before driving on, then that same logic extends to pubs on dual carriageways, of which they are many, and they should be treated the same.

The "few who will try their luck" will already have topped up at their local, or will have tins/bottles in the car. Are we to close all off-licences so we do not make it easier for those who will try their luck?

Lets see what the evidence shows. Such pubs are available across the continent; We are not that different from them.
You dont have to get off your face to be a danger though. any alcohol and fast speed is a lethal combination and an incident waiting to happen.

As for closing pubs on A roads, that is not quite the same. Many have been there years and serve the community rather than the motorist. But if a new one were to be built today, no I dont think it should be on main routes.

Motorists are responsible, yes I am sure many are. It will only take one though to wipe out a family. will you still hold the same opinion when that happens?

Time will tell I guess. In the meantime they are looking to open many such establishments, this is just the start.

If we are so exercised about drink driving and the danger of access to drink and driving, then we should be banning all alcohol sales everywhere, just in case someone takes a drink then goes and wipes out a family.

When you read of a tragic road accident like that, who do you blame? The driver, or the outlet that sold them the alcohol in the first place? I blame the driver, myself, and will continue to do so.

Time will tell on this though - I would imagine the traffic cops will be keeping a weather eye on the place too,so we should know fairly quickly if it is contributing to drink driving on that particular stretch of road.
