Granite worktops

Does anyone know if a cheap supplier of (black)granite work surfaces, or a cheap equilivant?

B&Q were advertising something similar made with Quarz which is meant to be just as good amd looks exactly the same but having priced it up, it's just as expensive as granite - can't really see the point in stocking it, myself!!!

Generally speaking the darker the granite the more expensive it is. There is a granite composite which has granite dust and sparkles and is compounded with a resin. Very, very granite like but definately cheaper. A lot of the cost of granite depends on how it is profiled e.g. what shape the edges, does it have grooves for a drainer etc. It then has to be templated once all the kitchen units/hob/sink have been taken into account. Much of the cost involved is for this labour intensive work.

Go into any local independant kitchen showroom and you should be able to see samples and get an idea of cost.

You could always go for a Granite look laminate worktop and I know that Axiom do this.

it depends where you llive in the UK.
I know of two suppliers in South Wales.
There is a granite I bought from Merlin Fireplaces in Cwmbran for a worktop for about �100 a metre 38mm thick..
It is called Nero Africa.
Merlins buys in directly from Italy etc and had all types and colours.

There is another placer in Newport that has slabs of various colours he got as a job lot �200 for 3 metres but you have to get it from there to your place
Be warned that glas and china breaks readily when coming into contact with granite.
