I thought radio codes were for just one radio in case they were stolen so they could not be used by the stealer.

How is it that a lot of people here can supply radio codes for all the people who have lost thiers?

With a lot of radios (you'll notice its generally Ford radios) the code is embedded in the unit's serial number (you'll also notice that the serial number is asked for by the person supplying the code). If you know the mathematical algorithm used you can obtain the code. When you go to Ford and ask them for your code, they rip you off at least 10, as all they've done is a minute's worth of number input into a computer program. If you have that, or a similar program.......

Thanks SKIDS, its a bit of a waste of time Fords having codes then? or a lot of other makes.
I may be wrong - but can't you personalise the code if you want to?
Some stereos will let you enter your own code. Ford stereos generally don't offer this feature.
if you can personalise your security code make sure you also register the stereo with the manufacurer using the card suplied in box when new.the manufacturer can unlock their stereos even if you've put your own code in.if they know who it's registered to and it's been reported stolen you have a better chance of getting it back. (this only happens in an ideal world )
