It seems like at least a couple of years ago. I have checked imdb but no mention of it prior to 2013. Odd.

Our Girl was originally made as a 'one off' episode but if the audience really liked it then a possible series could be made. The public seemed to like it.
A new 5 episode series will be shown sometime in 2014. Lacey Turner is confirmed too return as Molly Dawes.
The story revolves around the troops withdrawal from Afghanistan.
I enjoyed the original episode.

Lacey Turner also returns as Stacey Slater (Branning) in EastEnders early in 2014. The only decent actress in the soap.

I have noticed that sometimes a show is billed as 'new' if it has not been show on that particular channel, so its new to them. (Orignially on ITV but now on Dave maybe)

A bit naughty I think, but maybe its something like that?

I think I read somewhere that a series has been/is being made. The lovely Miss Turner is also making a return to Eastenders.

Following on from silliemillie it is also classed as new if it is shown on lets say BBC4 but then shown 'new' on BBC1.

Bit of a cheat methinks.

Also if a new series is being made didn't a Stacey / Molly die at the end of the original show making it a little difficult to continue unless they do a prequel series .. . . . . .

No, she didn't die. The funeral we saw her parents watching at the end was another girl soldier's funeral. I seem to recall Molly's dad putting an arm around her mum and saying their girl would be alright.
