My PC is running slower than ever... I have cleaned it up as best i can.. removed spyware, unused applications etc., removed as much stuff as I can but it still runs as slow as a mechanical tortoise, is there anything else i can do to quicken it up (apart from getting a new one) ?

Obviously, you have to wonder if there's a virus causing this problem. Or some rogue program. Run a virus scan and delete anything that looks suspicous. Also, run Task Manager and see what that shows you. On the Performance tab (and also on the status bar) you'll see a percentage CPU usage. If it's high (above about 10%) and you only have a few simple programs running, you probably have something running in the background that needs to be sorted out. Click on Processes and look for high levels of memory usage. If you find something running high, identify it ('Google' it if you don't recognise it), and if it's nothing you want on your system, get shut of it. When you do delete anything like this, also empty the Recycle Bin so it's well and truly disposed of.

Snook's advice is good. Another way of identifying if a process is legitimate or not is to have a look on www.answersthatwork.com. They keep a list of all known processes and explain if they're normal or malicious.
