I understand Andy Murray has won the Sportsview personality of the year award.I would have thought that would be difficult as he doesn't have one.

Glad you put this thread on grumpy01. Sports Personality Of The Year, the clue is in the title how the hell can he win it?

I agree with caribeing, The award should be called 'Sports Person of the Year' as it is given for their achievements.
ans just what is ''sportsview personality'' ?
He'll win it again next year after another Wimbledon success, unless it goes to the English football team for winning the World Cup in Brazil. HA HA HA HA, excuse me, sorry about that. HA HA HA HA HA. Sorry, I'm really sorry, HA HA HA HA HA HA.
He did something that not of us could have done, give him some credit!
it was originally tied in with the BBC's Sportsview programme
I shouldn't have thought it problematic, but some on this thread appear to be unaware that the word 'personality' has two (plus) distinct meanings. Here are the appropriate two from Chambers Dictionary...
a. a person, especially a remarkable one; a celebrity
b. distinctive or well-marked character.
Clearly, it is totally acceptable for someone lacking in 'b'...to qualify under 'a'.
I do not believe this applies to Andy Murray - given that he is the first British man to win the Wimbledon Singles Championship for 70-odd years - to nearly the same extent that it applied to Henman, but there you go!
Well if its a sporting PERSONALITY your after - it should have gone to Sir Alex - no-one has more personality than him
Yeah, England probably won't win in Brazil Wharton -- maybe Scotland have a chance? Oh wait.
"No matter how excited I try to sound, my voice always sounds boring..."

I think that sums it up, Poor man can't win with some people. And yet if you saw him after the match, or at the charity event in Queens' -- well, he deserves this award.
Congratulations to the BBC to get the trophy to Andy Murray in America within 10 minutes of the votes closing at Leeds. Or was it all set up beforehand?
Meanwhile...............back on the grassy knoll!
No Lance Armstrong this year then?
i think he does have one, but it doesn't show itself, except when he lost the final the year before, then he broke down in tears in front of all those people and live on tv, how would you feel.
shame they had to shove his mother up on stage, what on earth was she wearing....
I'm not sure what the issue is. Surely he got more votes than anyone else, and all those voting knew what the vote was for, so the public think he is the most deserving of the nominees.
i like him, and glad he won
Butterbun has got it spot on; and seriously it should be re-named. Bit parochial, but also well pleased to see the recognition for Leigh Halfpenny, and for Warren Gatland in the Coaching category. BBC - do take note of Butterbun.
