...for interesting watch information. For those of you who own a quartz (battery) watch and notice that the second hand starts to move in increments of 2 seconds, I just learned that this is indicative of a weak battery: time to change it...Just thought I share it with you.

Did not know that but you learn something new every day. If you want to buy cheap batteries then see the link below:

If you want to save the battery life then pull the winder out and the hands will stop. You can also buy 40 batteries for 1 pound at most supermarkets.

JonnyBoy12, the hands will stop only if the watch has a hacking mechanism, and in a lot of quartz watches, the battery is still in use even if the hands are not moving. The wholesale price of the most common batteries is around 20 cents over here.
Question Author
Obviously they retail for a lot more. The stores here charge at least $5 to change the battery for the "average" watch, and up to $20 or more for watches with more complications.
Yes, some quartz watches do this...most just stop. Personally, I prefer watches that don't need a battery change, like Citizen Eco-Drive.

That's a kinetic type right, gingejbee? I prefer mechanical watches myself: self-wind or manual. I'm always on the prowl for good, old fashioned pocket watches.
And there I was, thinking that I had been shifted closer to the Sun........You learn something every day.
