buy all 12 covers of the same edition of the Radio Times for this week?
There is a separate cover for each actor who has played/will play the eponymous character.
I have never watched an episode of that programme in my life but I find it incredulous that any fan would commit to that sort of expenditure. How long would they have to wait before the items proved a sound investment?

Well it's not exactly a fortune, compared to some things. Just the oddity of buying effectively 12 copies of the same thing.
Is there a Doctor Who anniversary calendar? Perhaps that's the idea. Make your own 2014 Doctor Who calendar?
The magazine seems to have gone "upmarket" in recent months and
increased its price considerably. It makes sense from a commercial point of view. When you can get the same basic information in lots of different places then you might as well start offering something a little extra, like pull-out wall charts, etc etc.
