I'm doing a Famous Names quiz and I'm stuck on the last 2 cryptic clues.

1. 'A bear of a fighter' - no idea on that one!

2. 'Smart Irish lad likes a drink' - I thought of Paddy McGuiness, but not sure what 'Smart' has to do with it? (No offence to Paddy!)

Any help would be gratefully received!

Thank you emeritus, I think you're right.

Just need thoughts on No.2 anyone, please!

1, Frank BRUNO (imo)
I prefer Frank Bruno (more famous here than Sonny)

But what has Frank Bruno got to do with a bear?

These clues are cryptic - such as 'A doll of a biscuit' is Cindy Crawford.

I was trying to think of someone with a bear's name - the person who set the quiz is obsessed with Teddy Bears! But someone who's nickname was 'bear' related seems the next best thing!

Don't worry about being known in the UK - lots of the answers are Americans.
bruno is Latin for bear

But I think, on reflection, I will go with Frank Bruno.

Thanks!

Auntflo - that is a great suggestion. Alec as in 'smart alec'!

I kept wondering where the smart came into it. I'm sure you're right.

Thank you so much!

it also sounds a bit like: I like Guinness
