Is it really just as simple as going into Features and Programmes and clicking Uninstall? Someone told me that Norton has fingers all across the computer and it`s not that easy.
Download and run the Norton Removal Tool (written by Norton). That gets rid of everything Norton related. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us
I want to get rid of Norton because I don`t want to have to keep paying for it every year. I recently installed Malaware but it was a free trial version which came to an end. Do you then have to pay? Would MSE on it`s own be OK and if I do have some other free system, will they conflict?
You can only use one anti-virus program at a time whether free or not. If you run more than one you end up with constant conflicts.
Malwarebytes free only runs on demand and I suggest a weekly scan is sufficient. If you have a free trial of the full Malwarebytes it will expire and you will have to pay to continue.
I put on MSE when the free Norton I got with the computer expired, that was over 2 years ago, MSE has been fine and I have never had a problem.
I would never pay for something when you can get it free.
Thanks for the replies. I think I will go with MSE. The Norton uninstaller says "Use the Norton Removal Tool to remove a failed installation or damaged Norton Product. After you run the Norton Removal Tool and restart the computer, you will be reinstalling your Norton product from your Norton Management. I`m not really sure what that means.
just to say I installed MSE and it refused to recognise my external hard disk, the one I backed everything up on to. I removed it and installed Avast (free) instead and had no more trouble. Plus I have Malwarebytes but just switch it on and do a scan once a week or so. Things like Avast and MSE are running all the time.
There is a way to get Kaspersky for £1 , just open a Barclays cash card saving account with £1 and register it for online banking. There is an option to get Kaspersky free to protect your account , the free Kaspersky is the latest version and you can put it on to up to 3 computers. You need to keep the account open with the £1 or the free Kaspersky will expire at the end of a year.
