I've asked about this before but thought I'd give it another go to see if anyone can help solve what is a very strange issue here.

My friend has a laptop that connects to his router but will not access the internet via the router.

The strange thing is that the laptop in question has been tried on two other routers and it connects to the internet fine through those. To make matters stranger I have been able to connect a phone and a different laptop to the internet via his router.

Does anyone know what could be causing this issue?

No, it is only the laptop in question that won't connect properly, other laptops and smartphones connect to the router with no problems.

And the laptop in question connects to other routers with no problem. There must be some reason for this.
He needs to access the router settings to see if the MAC address of his laptop has been blocked from accessing the internet.

How would that happen hc? Would you have to specifically have found out the MAC address of his laptop and then deny it, or can this happen automatically? I don't think anyone would have done that on purpose.
Hi flobadob......I am a little confused. Related questions below suggest that you have the problem. Please correct me if I am mis-understanding the issue.

In the meanwhile I sincerely hope that hc4361 comes back with further comments.

Try resetting the laptop's TCP/IP stack. It often fixes the problem you've described:

Buen, we tried that already but to no avail. Alex, it's my friend who had the laptop, I might have said me in that I was trying to sort this out for him, no biggie. I guess it would do no harm to try that link again and also genders suggestion, but if anything else rings a bell remember me.
I had a problem connecting an internet radio and finally discovered the radio was using the same IP Address as my iPhone and that was the reason it wouldn't accept the password on the BT Hub. I changed the last 2 numbers of the IP Address on the iPhone and the problem was solved.

I had 6 appliances using the hub and checked all their IP Addresses before I replaced.
