We are planning on moving house, however the area we are looking at encompases about 20miles from the edge of manchester all the way round. Our son is 2 and we have another on the way and are keen to make a choice wich is also good for their education. Does anyone know a web site I can use to look at school 'performance' on a clickable map rather than have to search for every school? ( I put performance in inverted commas as I think these are really only indicators and not nessicarily a quantitative measure)

you can just put in an area and the results come up. I agree with you that the league tables are only an indicator, though having moved twice (both times over 200 miles) with primary school aged children I have found them useful, but I also looked at school inspection reports and visited a number of schools in the area. I also liked hanging around when it was hometime - can be an eye opener!

Thanks for the linka and the tips. I get the feeling there are probably a couple of hundred schools in the areas we are looking at so I was looking for a starter for 10 like the link. Then we can spy out the area!
