We bought something on ebay and the seller sent it out with Royal Mail 1st class signed for.
It should of arrived today but didnt - upon checking, we realised we asked the seller to send it to an old address still saved on Ebay where I used to work and in my maiden name.
The building is empty and for let.
I presume Royal Mail left a 'something for you card' through the letter box.
Does anyone know how I can hopefully get my item ?
I cant just visit the closest post office as I dont have the correct proof of address or ID.
Really need a bit of guidance, thanks.

Could you go to the relevant post office place with your passport & wedding certificate and explain things (maybe show them the relevant ebay page on your phone?).
If I were you, I would contact RM - if it's only your local sorting office - and ask the manager there for advice. If the building is empty, there must be a letting agent who would be able to retrieve the card. EBay sellers are obliged to deliver to the address you give them, so that's what will have happened even if the postman could see it was empty.
If you still have any proof that you lived in the house, e.g. documents addressed to you there, and your marriage certificate showing the change of name, then the RM may well give you the package - but you need to check. If you know the agents, first step would be to ask them to retrieve the card for you.
If all else fails, and the package is indeed at the local post office collection point, then when it isn't collected after a period of days it will be returned to sender if he has included sufficient detail for them to do so.
yes, unless its urgent just let them send it back to sender and get them to repost it, you would have to cover that cost though,
