Yes the 'wait and see' approach is very risky and will put great strain on resources already overstretched. It is hard to criticise anyone wanting better than they have got but at what cost to the Country they arrive in ?

huge cost to the host country, and not just Britain, unbridled immigration has been the biggest problem we have and are likely to face now and in the future, if as we know housing is in short supply, where will more people find a home, not least a job, and means to support themselves?

With a declining ageing population , we need fresh blood coming into the country. We should look at the positives we can lever from this.
Mass movements of Europeans has been going on for 1,000's of years.

sir raven, simplistic but we didn't get rid of the Romans, they were not always a good thing for Britain, sure Boudicca might agree if she were to come back from the dead, they reneged on their promises not to mention flogged her and raped her daughters, they came saw and indeed conquered, as to the other invaders, much bloodshed whilst rampaging and pillaging, the Normans were no better, nor were most of the invaders, pretty much like any country that is conquered by foreign invaders. as to immigration now, well sorry that has changed the face of Britain for good, mobility of peoples from around the globe coming to live, work perhaps or just dossing here has not necessarily been a good thing, not to mention changed the British culture out of all recognition, still you go on living your dream all the while the fallout is there to see, mass immigration in 50 years has had a profound affect on UK, and will continue to do so.

What is British culture?

that as one would say is what i grew up with, and if you don't know, equally one could say what is Asian Culture or African culture ? determined by your background, family, religion, schooling, plenty more, as well as a shared ideology on democracy, law, my culture would be British and European to some extent. It isn't necessarily quantifiable but it's there all the same, my family were all born here, they shared a common English, British ancestry, going back many generations.
