This is good a Muslim criticising us for not knowing enough about Christianity, but even more laughable is the following;

/// Ahmed also claimed that a key reason that Islam is not the subject of more humorous discussion is that the life of the Prophet Muhammad is poorly understood by large sections of the British public. “How can anybody tell a joke about Muhammad when they don’t even know how to spell his name, let alone anything about his life? The day we have people standing up and telling detailed jokes about Muhammad and have the audience understanding that humour, then we will have come a long way in society and we will have a lot more religious literacy about a major world figure.” ///

Would anyone be allowed to stand up and tell jokes about Muhammad, (have I spelt that correctly) and even if they were, how long would it be before they were forced into hiding?

##Muhammad is poorly understood by large sections of the British public.##

And the rest of World IMO!
AOG,
It is sad that every Muslim you see you assume they are a terrorist until they prove themselves otherwise.

A bit ironic you should confess that in a thread about poor understanding of other faiths.
well, this has turned in to an interesting thread. AOG posts, lots of us reply, and the only person AOG acknowledges and responds to is Gromit. You should have said if you were just out to bait each other, not looking for other people's contributions.
I expect he's preparing to rate Gromit as Best Answerer.

While there are a lot of non-religious gags in Life of Brian, I wonder if yuong people today do get "blessed are the cheesemakers". (Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.)

Here are a few without really looking hard

// The Daily Mail website is by far the best newspaper website in the UK, if not the world. And their campaign to see Stephen Lawrence's killers caught and prosecuted is also to their credit. //

// The Daily Mail website is the most viewed Newspaper website in the UK. Although I don't like the content, it does what it does extremely well. //

// However, there are costs involve in reporting news and publishing a website, and at the moment, the internet versions of newspapers, such as the Daily Mail's excellent site //

// The Daily Mail is very good at what it does - delivering a right wing news agenda. It is also the second best selling newspaper in the country (after the Sun).  //

Got to go now to watch United struggle against Southampton.
Ha!
Gromit is a very naughty boy -)
Of course they would, but it requires a certain knowledge and understanding which non- Muslims do not have. Life of Brian required some understanding of what was being parodied; the leper saying that Christ was annoying because He cured lepers, needs you to know what the joke is about that, or the idea that people misheard the sermon on the mount, for example. It is quite possible that young people are not familiar enough with the story to understand that, nor that there were many false prophets about, and so Brian is innocently mistaken for the genuine Messiah
Oh no he's not, he's a very naughty boy!
So now we know that Gromit isn't the Messiah ? I was believing every word !
Yes, and you only get crucifixion for a first offence :-)
People mock Islam all the time. Trey Parker and Matt Stone have done so numerous times, as have the authors of the web comic "Jesus and Mo":

http://www.jesusandmo.net/
Do you know CofEs, RCs , Methodists , Jews, Muslims all have the same God
They also revere Mary, and Jesus Christ as a prophet and all the OT prophets. ? Do you also know Muslim Sharia Law was taken from the OT. ?
Of course you all knew that , I just thought I would mention it .
None of my theist neighbours knew.

It makes you wonder why we have been slaughtering each other on religious grounds for millenia.
AOG

Your Muslim joke was very funny - it made me laugh.

However - I think the dearth of Mohammed jokes is that we simply don't know enough about the the subject to make the joke work.
I assume AOG meant jokes actually ridiculing Mohammed. The Jesus and Mo stuff doesn’t do that, and neither did AOG’s joke.
"The Jesus and Mo stuff doesn’t do that, and neither did AOG’s joke."

Yes it does.

Thanks Krom. I hadn't seen those - and point taken.

Very funny. :o)
I spoke to a Muslim yesterday who said he loved all Isamic jokes against hypocrisy especially concerning drink. However he considered the RC church the most hypocritical of all the faiths , and gave me this one :

Subject: FW: Fw: CONFESSIONAL BOX
A guy goes into the confessional box, after years being away from the
Church. He pulls aside the curtain, enters and sits down. There's a fully
equipped bar with crystal glasses, the best vestry wine, Guinness on tap,
cigars and liqueur chocolates nearby, and on the wall a fine photographic
display of buxom ladies, who appear to have mislaid their garments. ***
** **
*He hears the priest coming and says "Father, forgive me, for it's been a
very long time since I've been to confession and I must admit that the
confessional box is much more inviting than it used to be".*
** **
*The priest responds, *
** **
*"Get out, you idiot. You're on my side".*

Until they go around with labels pinned on themselves, 'Extremist' and 'Non-Extremist', it is the safest bet.

If you can tell me how to recognise an extremist, then that is something else I will have learned about Islam."

If there were a line of a hundred folk with an unknown number of atheists, Christians, Hindus, Jews and Muslims, are you telling us you would be able to identify ALL the Muslims only by looking at them? If so, how would you do it?
