Hello

Are there any knitters out there who could help? I am looking for a pattern for an adult size beanie type hat that isn’t knitted in the round, i.e. not knitted on circular needles and I would like the pattern as plain as possible. I’ve been looking on the internet for the last 2 1/2 hours with no success. It is for a friend’s daughter who I am teaching to knit, she wants to knit a hat for her dad for his birthday at the end of October!! Hence the need for a basic pattern.

Thank you.

Repeat these two rows once more. Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row. Pull thread through all stitches and sew up seam . Stick a pom pom on top if you're feeling frivolous :)

I joined Knit Picky Patterns too - it's a US newsletter, they send free patterns nearly every day.
have you tried ebay ? i get most of my patterns here
Free, pug?
I use a very simple pattern to knit hats for the baby unit at the hospital.

Cast on stitches for the height of the hat (bearing in mind stretch and the curve over the top and if you want any turn up) then just knit rows until you have enough to go round the head (again bearing in mind stretch as it tends to be more stretchy this way.

So she would just be knitting a long rectangle then sew together up the side and then gather in at the top.

She could even do two and sew them together to make it thicker if she can get her tension ok so they are the same size.

Even if she can just knit rather than purling or patterns, she could just do plain knit rows and maybe alternate colour ever 2 or more rows to end up with a striped pattern with the stripes going down.

dont think she was interested until she saw me actually knitting then she couldn’t seem to take her eyes off it! no one in her family is 'crafty' at all so im right chuffed she asked me teach her, once she's got the basics of knitting i might just suggest crochet as well lol i can’t remember who taught me to knit, my Mum i suppose, i can’t remember never knitting but as the years have progressed i find it more difficult knitting with the finer needles my fingers ache something chronic and the fiddly toys I used to make are now only made on rare occasions
