Hello

Are there any knitters out there who could help? I am looking for a pattern for an adult size beanie type hat that isn’t knitted in the round, i.e. not knitted on circular needles and I would like the pattern as plain as possible. I’ve been looking on the internet for the last 2 1/2 hours with no success. It is for a friend’s daughter who I am teaching to knit, she wants to knit a hat for her dad for his birthday at the end of October!! Hence the need for a basic pattern.

Thank you.

wow shaney, east peasy or what, love it
That's a great simple one, shaney - a tube with a bobble on the top, ideal!

i wish typing was easy peasy today lol Till says the easier the better so yours is it shaney, inspired by the pattern ubasses linked too she has decided to use the sidar crofter wool in a shade called Glen, she's slightly daunted but willing to give it her best shot.
Her dad will love it!
It's just the basic hat that's knitted for the Mission to Seafarers .
A worthy cause.

Yes Sirdar Crofter would be lovely .It knits up to look like Fairisle .I've done some socks and wrist warmers in it .It's a really easy pattern for a beginner .
Good luck with it x
Glad you are sorted with a pattern. (Another avid knitter here, mostly cocks and mitts.)
@2 fantastic resources for patterns are ...

and Ravelry, which you have to join to access the patterns.

Ravelry is brilliant .I'm a member and there are zillions of lovely patterns to look at.I spend far too much time on there :)

shaney, Till has just finished looking at the Mission to Seafarers site and has told me to tell you that if her dads hat is actually wearable she will knit a hat for them as a thank you, she also says thank you for the good luck
I hope she enjoys knitting it .It's nice to see youngsters learning to knit .
It's a dying craft which luckily is seeing something of a revival nowadays.
Nothing better than being able to produce something that's been hand made with love .It's a very relaxing hobby .I've been knitting since my grandmother taught me many moons ago now .Although these days due to fumbly arthritic fingers I stick to small stuff .It keeps the hands and fingers moving !
shaney, I sent a box of weeny hats to Innocent Drinks earlier this year for their campaign http://simplyknitting.themakingspot.com/blog/free-innocent-smoothie-hat-pattern
ah, this year's deadline is soon.... http://thebigknit.co.uk/join-in
I was great at the crotchet. Years ago crotcheted for babies to grandmas. Never used a pattern. Made it up as I went along.

My mum wore a waistcoat I made for her but every stitch was 4 or 5 times the stitch (if you can get that). She wore it that long my sister threw it out behind her back and she went mad and retrieved it again.

I genuinely never thought people wore knitted stuff now. There ya go!! You learn every day!!! LOL
It's very popular again conne - glad to see it's coming back. I knitted all the time about 20 years ago, picture knits, everything, then I stopped. It was those little charity hats got me back into it. Hurrah!
My young friend 52 died last year and was going through chemo and she asked me to teach her how to crotchet. I bought the wool and hook and started about 5 rows of maybe a scarf. She never learnt and I still have the 5 rows. Sad.
Oooh ..those are really cute .I've not seen this before .Bit late for me now as I'm knitting a scarf for my SiL....but I'll keep it in mind .I've got loads of spare odd half used balls of wool in my stash .Do they do this every year ?
That IS sad, conne - maybe you could finish it, in her memory.
Boxy I have another lady friend she was fantastic at the fair isle pattern. Done it too without a pattern and her cardigans looked beautiful. She wore one all the time.
There are some free patterns on www.coatscrafts.co.uk, the makers of Patons wools and Anchor threads.
