I've just won a phone on eBay at a reasonable price. I haven't actually paid for it yet and I'm in two minds as to whether its genuine or not. I have explained this to the seller and my reason for stalling ( the picture showed no beats audio sign on back of phone) he said it rubbed off, which sounds feesable and after looking on line other people have said the same about there's.

Its through PayPal so if it is fake I could just claim a refund from them.

I have also asked him to send me a picture of the phone switched on showing the IMEI number as there is a tool you can check to see if its legit.

Are you covered for refunds through PayPal with counterfeit goods?
Even if the phone was listed as something it wasn't. I.e The title and details showed it was for HTC one x when the pictures showed it to be the newer HTC one. I initially contacted the buyer and it was for the HTC one. I think that's why I got it for cheaper (£250) as the title suggested it was a one x.

Also, can you register a credit card with PayPal and maybe get covered from my credit card company as well as PayPal?

Yes you can defo register a credit card ( or as many as you like) with paypal - I always pay that way.

As a regular user of eBay, why didn't you ask these questions before you placed a bid? It's bit late to start to ask questions like this once you have won the item.

agree with boxtops - you dont just outbid everyone else then start stalling and not being sure!

you have bought it, it is your phone.
winning and auction is not just an option to choose further.

Register a credit card with paypal and pay for the phone,Ebay is a great way of buying things but you should check the buyers feedback,I will not buy from a seller with zero or under 20 feedback especially if the item costs £250,but you have bid now so go through with it.

S.75 of the Consumer Credit Act which makes the credit card company jointly liable with the seller if anything goes wrong allowing you to claim the money from them DOES NOT third party payments such as PayPal.

It only works if you pay the business seller directly.

SOME credit cards will help you out but that is one of the company's own terms and conditions, not the law.
