Some of them are really bad and the spelling is terrible, also some are very slow and come on screen about 10/15 seconds after the person has spoke...so annoying if you are hard of hearing, even with hearing aids in..

I totally agree, I rely on subtitles and some programmes are really bad, you end up missing the storyline very often at the most crucial point! You would think in these days of fast technology things could be improved.
try and shut your TV completely down - pull out sockets - everything from the wall - leave for 30 minutes or more - should be fine - let me know. Conne
I agree also! For some reason my daughters have taken to putting the subtitles on and must admit I've got used to it being on and find I'm not missing half of what im watching cos someones talked at a crucial point in the progam and ive missed whats been said.
I have found there to be a lot of spelling mistakes, chunks of dialogue missing to what has been said and watching the news I turn it off as it is minutes behind what is actually being said which is off putting.

Im not hard of hearing but can see how subtitles are relied on and I don't think they are good enough.
wingnut do as you are told - pull everything from the wall for 30-40 mins - will work
I use subtitles. When there is a problem with them I go to the TV station's website and complain about it. If enough of us complain they may do something about it.

The DRAMA channel (Ch20) recently came to Freeview. When it first began everytime a character spoke the first sentence they said never had subtitles. If two characters were talking to one another with a sentence each no subtitles at all appeared. I complained and it now appears to be much better.
Lol Mr Wingnut says I never do as I am told but for you conn I will make an exception :):):)

Will have to wait till later tho as the tv seems to be occupied at the moment :)

I think in general subtitles are OK. But there is a problem when it comes to subtitling live programmes like the news. I don't know what the answer is to the problems of subtitling these sort of programmes.
They use subtitles on the TV at the gym (they play loud music). The spelling is hilarious, and I have seen some real faux pas come up lately!
