After revealing to the mucky media the existence of a personal confidential conversation with Wayne Rooney, Steve Gerrard then has the temerity to state "It wouldn't be fair on Wayne for me to talk about that conversation, but of course I am close to him".

Think that's a bit unfair. He's England captain and was responding to a question put to him by journalists. I can well imagine that a considerable part of that press conference was devoted to WR. And that won't have been coming from the England camp, but from the press. Seems to me he dealt with it pretty well, considering.
