As per Andy-H, his production company were paid the money, since they make the TV show they will have all the costs associated with that, not that he isn't well paid for what appears to be a not particularly arduous job but he's not being paid £2.61 million

All big celebrity stars earn too much. After all, all they do is lose their self consciousness and seem sociable/entertaining for a while. Capitalism is not flawless. But humans don't seem to do their best in a fair system, even if one could be maintained.
