I have been about contacted by a debt collection agency about a bank overdraft from 1997 this is the first contact I have had since 1999. they get quite assertive on the phone trying to get me to admit the dabt and make payment on it. do I have to pay this

I would imagine you'll end up paying it. You haven't said they're wrong and i think their system will prove quite easily that you owe the money.

Statue of limitation means nothing if Bob has moved address without informing them.
