I got a note home from school a week ago regarding nits going around the school and the treatment to kill them. My kids had their school photos done yesterday and told me that a teacher combed their hair beforehand using the dame comb, I don't have any objections to this in principle but if nits are in the school would'nt this encourage a bigger problem. Can nits transfer by combs and brushes.

Thanks

Er yes, she shouldnt have really used the comb at all, not if she was brushing a kids hair who had nits and then your childs. You better just check them to make sure.
Whilst in the Gulf my entire unit and me had nits the size of conkers. If your kids (or you) get them don't waste your money on all the expensive lotions. Just use good old fasnioned vinegar. Kills the pesky itchers as if they had been nuked.
did anyone else start scratching their heads as they were reading this? LOL

Sadly, head lice are epedemic, maionly because the social stigma means that parents don;t tell their children's school that they have caught them.

Lice live only in clean hair, contrary to the perceived belief that your children are thought of as 'dirty' if they have them. Tell the school imediately, get the treatment, everyone in the family use it until you are sure this infestation has gone.

Think of it in the same way as a cold or flu - nothing to be ashamed of.

yeah BOO - and i dont even have any hair ! ? !

Many thanks for your answers, I am going to ring the school straight after half term. If the children have nits would I know straight away or do you have to wait a couple of days, have'nt seen any yet.
My daughter goes to a day centre, and regularly gets them, as a-h has said, they only go to clean hair, I call the visitors, because because once treated, they're gone, totally harmless, poor little creatures, only trying to survive, and we kill them
