Copying A Dvd Slideshow Set To Music ?

Tried to do a copy of our wedding dvd which is a slideshow of pictures set to music , i used a DVD-R disc and selected all the files including the pictures and the music and then clicked burn to disc . It seemed to have copied the files but it won't play as a slideshow as the original does , my dvd player which is not old won't recognize the disc either.
Anyone know of the correct way to do this ?

Is it a DVD you made or one a professional wedding photographer made. If it's the latter it may be copy protected.
