Monitor screen colour change

Frequently, but to no regular pattern, the colour on my screen changes so that it takes on a slightly reddish hue. On the Desktop screen, which I've got set to a default blue colour (i.e. no wallpaper) this, without warning, changes to a very dark blue, bordering on purple. Just as suddenly, it then after a minute or so, changes back - and it repeats this randomly all the time I'm using it. I don't think it's a degaussing issue - the colour seems too uniform all over the screen. It is almost as if there is a surge from the red generator gun (if that's the right terminology - which it probably isn't!). The monitor is 5 years old. Is it about to give up the ghost? Apart from this problem, which is more of an annoyance than a major problem, I have no other difficulties. can anyone shed any light on the reason for this and / or offer any solution? Thanks

It's probably just a bit knakkered! Sounds like the tubes are faulty as you'd already guessed. Although it could be as simple as a damaged monitor cable, loose connection or something.

Monitors are quite cheap now, so just get a new one if it gets worse. You can even get a LCD monitor for around 100 now.

my monitor had a similar problem so i took the back off and blew out all the dust which did the trick.so if you have never done this it could be the answer.

although i must say it will give up the ghost eventually.

have you tried a deaguss from the monitor menu ?
