What do we all think about this scheme which should improve numbers of organs available for transplants ?

I think it is a great idea. I have had a donor card for 20 years.

Its just your body, you aren't using it anymore.
I understand the aim, but feel it is an almighty cheek to assume the default condition is they can grab any bit of you they want unless pre-denied. Morally questionable. It's about time they worked out how to grow organs in the lab anyway.
Good idea.
I agree with it.
An opt-out system is abolutely the way we should go - it makes obvious sense and would reduce the number of needless deaths.

I'd go even further: for those people that do choose to opt out, they forfeit any right to be a recipient.
I've always thought that it should be an opt out scheme and not an opt in one.
I understand O_Gs point - but it is morally questionable in my view to receive an organ transplant if you are not prepared to donate yourself, especially when dead and having no further need for your various organs.

So opt-out gets a thumbs -up from me....
"Morally Questionable" is an understatement LG ...

... I entirely agree with TheBaBas above.

Just one point - the NHS uses organs from "all over the UK" for patients "all over the UK" (a simplification, but basically correct). If there are now going to be a lot more Welsh organs available, will they be reserved for Welsh patients ???
I agree with it. If you really object then opt out - easy.

In addition organs should be given to those who are opted-in. Those who opt out should be only offered if no opt-in person can take them
How does it work for visitors from outside of wales?
You can leave your kidneys at the border - always get a receipt though :+)
What if you visit from England or indeed anywhere that does not have opt out and are in an accident, can they just rip the bits out on the basis of not having opted out?
Nice one, Sunny-dave
I think it should definitely be an"opt out". As it stands, relatives can overrule someone who has "opted in" anyway. And from a friend's experience, even when everyone is in agreement, the person has to die within a certain amount of time for certain organs to be transplanted, so it's not a given, even then.
