Good Morning!

My just turned 16 year old daughter has just left school and decided she may well like a career in Social work. Could any one please give me a simplified breakdown on what qualifications she would need? So basically she is still waiting on GCSE results, but what would she need to do at college to get in to University?

She could do a access course which is the equivalent to A levels.
My friend did an access course a couple of years ago, she was a mature student so don't know if that makes any difference. I'll ask her what the course was.
For about 5 years you have needed a degree:

I have done the Access course myself and as far as I remember you have to be over 18 to qualify.
So basically she would be looking at doing A levels to gain her entry to a Social work degree?
A Health and Social Care BTEC Level 2 and 3. She could do these at college and then go on to university.
The ucas website might be a good starting point, each institution usually lists entry requirements either points/subjects required.
Some Uni courses don't accept BTEC certificates/awards for entry to degree level courses. The minimum requirements are usually maths and english A level grade C or above and one other subject at the same pass level.
The admissions tutors on many reputable social work courses prefer to accept applicants who are mature, with considerable experience of life. I'd be surprised if she were accepted straight from school.
I work in FE and the age for Access to HE is 19 with us
Check with your local FE College.

The three areas where it is VERY difficumt to get into university for are Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work.
