Wondering if anyone could help me. My Father was apparently in the Army in the late 60's early 70's. He lived in Scotland, but I have no idea what regiment or anything. He is now deceased, and I would like to find out more about his military past. Where would be the best place to start? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

If he was in the army when he married or when any of his children were born his rank and service number would be included on the registration of birth or marriage and on any certified copy, alternatively, if you are unable to look at such certificates, you may be able to identify where he may have been stationed from the registration districts and so research which regiments were in that at that time. If you have or can locate any photos of him in uniform you may be able to get a photo on here and someone perhaps could identify the regimental insignia. If you can recall him speaking of any pals he knew from his army days, you might be able to track them down too.
or possibly he had an British Army pension? It is possible, you can ask here:

Thanks very much!!
you are welcome angi, let us know how your research goes.
I believe the Royal British Legion can help in tracing service records too.
