just bought a used ignition barrel from local scrap yard for my 1995 fiesta as the original ignition kept sticking. I have now discovered there is a little micro chip in my original ignition key that allows the engine to start. Can I take the chip out of my old key and swap it over to the new Key,if so how ? help cos my car now won' start ??

The micro chip has a very short range but usually works anywhere close to the lock, so for a quick ''get you going'' you can try moving the old key around near the lock and see if you can find a position were it will activate the system, then glue it in that position.
Then look for a specialist locksmith who can cut these keys, some can do this for you.

Thanks Qapmoc- will try this, I take it you mean near the ignition barrel not the door lock.

Thanks

I had a similar problem with an old escort. I cut the end off the chipped key and secured it near the lock then replaced the cowling. Now car starts ok and you won't need to bother paying for getting a key chipped -- it's pretty expensive. I was quoted 60.00 more than the car was worth I think !!
