My husband has gout in his foot (he's fifty-odd) does anyone know of a herbal remedy to ease his pain? He doesn't fancy a visit to the docs - or the cost of a prescription or two!

If he's not been to the Doc's how does he know it's Gout? It's a severe form of arthitis and should be treated in the same way..I have some remedies but he should get it confirmed first
Tell him to cut out all spicy food and alcohol, cut down on dairy products, an drink as much water as he can for a few days - should clear it up. If not, it may not be gout - see the doc.

Do what the other answers tell him to do!

Don't be stupid and go to the doctors

For immediate relief, use Nurofen, it has the same anti inflamatory affect as Diclofenic Sodium which is what the doc will prescribe. Then go to the doctor for an evaluation, if it's regular you'll be put on Allopurinol, take daily, should never get another attack.
yep, in agreement with the others-get him to the doctors!! I'm not sure whether my dad has to take drugs everyday or just when he's not been careful and gets a flare up-allipurinol is somehting I've heard him on about. He drinks cranberry juice as he must have read somewhere it's good for gout-might be worth including-some foods are quite bad for gout and a search on google should give you some answers.

I've heard cherries are good for gout.

It may also be worth looking at homeopathy.
