Reading on Desky's thread that you can't sleep for coughing - I have a useful tip which loads of my friends and family have now tried. Holland and Barrett (and other chemists and some supermarkets) sell RICOLA sweets in a packet or tube. They are made in Switzerland and are Herbal but they seem to stop a tickly irritating cough in the night. I bite a small piece off and tuck it in my cheek which gradually dissolves while you sleep. I find the Original flavour are much better than the fruity flavours. They taste pleasant and not medicinal at all.

Well probably should re-phrase it - a tip for Barmaid re her cough, instead of expecting her cough to read this LOL ;)
I swear by Night Nurse, always use it when I have a cough at night.

Really ! ! ! LOL
this is something for daytime but only in small doses as it is very fattening the syrup that tinned sliced peaches are in if sipped (tiny sips) seems to ease the throat just enough to get on for a while without coughing.
Ann : You can't go to sleep with something in your mouth, you may choke!

I would suggest a herbal infusion (tea) of Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) which you should be able to get at your local herbal shop in dried form mixed with a teaspoon of manuka honey and sipped before bedtime. If you can't get skullcap then chamomile or even mint tea is an alternative but always add the honey as this coats the back of your throat. A few drops of Olbas Oil on your pillow will help keep your airways open.
i like elderflower ricola, i wouldn't say they are any good for soothing a cough

soothers or lockets are quite good
I wish id seen this 7 days/night ago :*(
Thank you Ann for thinking of me. Mr BM is going out with a list in a bit. lol

I have actually only just got up. I didn't go to sleep until 5, but then managed almost 6 hours of unbroken lovely sleep. Fingers crossed it is on its way out now I have managed to get some kip (although the mammoth dose of codeine I took might have had something to do with it).

Today I am implementing a policy of ignoring absolutely everyone. Work wouldn't leave me alone yesterday despite my calling in sick so today I am just not answering the phone or the email and am going to sit in the garden and drink coffee.
"Barmaid's cough"? I saw the heading and thought that was an occupational disease from working in smoke- filled pubs.

Anyway, BM , hope you feel better soon.
I have a tip for BM: longer roaches, shorter inhales...
